The design journey

Not sure where to start? The first step is a Garden Strategy Consultation; a standalone session where we explore your space and I produce your personalised Garden Transformation Plan. Find out more on the consultation page.

So, you have your Garden Transformation Plan. Here is what happens next.

The strategy consultation gives you clarity and direction. What follows is the design journey, built layer by layer, from the ground up, at a pace that suits you.

Chapter One: Site Analysis and Survey

The first step is a dedicated visit to your property to gather everything the design needs: soil analysis, aspect, topography, measurements, and a thorough understanding of your surroundings and how you use the space.

Where needed, I may recommend an external surveyor. This will always be discussed in advance.

Chapter Two: Garden Design Pack

This is where the design takes shape. I research your brief in depth, develop a concept rooted in your vision and my expertise, and bring it all together into a comprehensive design pack and presented to you in person. It includes:

  • A scaled, annotated colour-rendered master plan

  • Hand-drawn colour perspectives of the space

  • A planting guide - researched for your specific soil, aspect and lifestyle

  • A materials guide - paving, timber and hard landscaping recommendations

  • A colour guide

  • A wildlife and biodiversity guide

  • A health and wellbeing guide

  • A suppliers and sourcing guide

Chapter Three: Construction Pack

Once the design is approved, I prepare everything needed to move into the build phase, introducing you to experienced, vetted contractors suited to your project and attending all relevant site visits prior to quoting. This chapter includes:

  • A specification and full schedule of works

  • Setting out drawings to enable contractors to produce accurate quotes

  • Introduction to skilled landscapers, electricians, bricklayers and other relevant tradespeople

Chapter Four: Plant Pack

Before the build begins, I carry out a full audit of your existing plants and trees, advising on what stays, what moves and what goes. I then prepare an initial plant and tree list for discussion, followed by a detailed final list including species, sizes, quantities, planting locations and seasonal interest.

Nothing is ordered until you are happy with every choice.

Chapter Five: Construction

Throughout the build I am available for project inspection, measuring, setting out, troubleshooting and keeping the build true to the design. I supply all technical drawings required by the contractor and attend site visits as needed to ensure the project runs smoothly and your investment is protected.

Chapter Six: Planting

The final and most transformative chapter. Once the build is complete and actual planting areas are measured, I source and purchase your plants and trees from specialist trade suppliers using UK-grown stock wherever possible. I am there on the day to receive the delivery, set out and plant everything myself.

A follow-up visit a week and a month later ensures everything is settling in well, and you will receive a handover document with care and maintenance guidance.

All that's left is for you to enjoy your new garden.

"It has been an absolute pleasure from start to finish. Sarah arrived with enormous enthusiasm, took our brief and raised it to another level with her designs. Sarah communicated with us throughout the build process and also with our landscaper, making regular site visits."

A note on the journey

Every project is different. Many clients choose to begin with Chapters One and Two before committing to the full journey. This is absolutely fine and we can discuss the best approach for you on our call.
